How We Can Help You

Our highly skilled team of oral surgeons offer a full range of maxillofacial procedures.

Wisdom Teeth Removal

In most cases, the removal of wisdom teeth is performed under general anesthesia in hospital, however for suitable cases the procedure can be carried out under local anaesthesia with or without sedation in our rooms. These options, as well as the surgical risks (i.e. sensory nerve damage, sinus complications etc.) will be discussed with you before the procedure is performed. Following surgery you will be provided with some detailed post-operative instructions.*

Dental Implants

Dental implants are changing the way people live. They are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth which look, feel and function like natural teeth. A person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything, knowing that their teeth appear natural and their facial contours will be preserved so they can smile with confidence.*

Orthognathic (Jaw) Surgery

Surgery to correct the size and shape of the jaws is a relatively common procedure, often done in conjunction with orthodontics which is required to align the teeth. The maxilla (upper jaw), the mandible (lower jaw) or both jaws may require surgical correction to treat jaw deformities resulting from either developmental problems or following severe trauma. Orthognathic surgery not only improves facial appearance, but also ensures the teeth meet correctly and function properly.*

Facial Trauma

Oral surgeons are trained, skilled and uniquely qualified to manage and treat many aspect of facial trauma. Injuries to the face, by their very nature, impart a high degree of emotional, as well as physical trauma to patients. Our doctors have been a significant amount of experience in the treatment of all aspects of maxillofacial trauma.*

Oral Pathology

The inside of the mouth is lined with a special type of skin (mucosa) that is mostly smooth and coral pink in colour. Any alteration in this appearance could be a warning sign for a pathological process. The most serious of these is oral cancer. We would recommend performing an oral cancer self-examination monthly and remember your mouth is one of your body’s most important warning systems. Do not ignore suspicious lumps or sores. Please contact us so we may help.*

Bone Grafting

Over a period of time, the jawbone associated with missing teeth atrophies or is resorbed. This often leaves a condition in which there is poor quality and quantity of bone suitable for the placement of dental implants. Today, we have the ability to grow bone where needed. This not only gives us the opportunity to place implants of proper length and width, it also gives us a chance to restore functionality and esthetic appearance.*

*Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practictioner.

FAQ

Home: FAQ

Do I need to have private health insurance to be treated?

Treatment is available with or without private health insurance. However, private health insurance assists with the costs of treatment, particularly if it is necessary to go to hospital. Each health insurance policy is different, and you need to clarify what your entitlements are with your fund.

How long is expected recovery time from wisdom teeth removal?

Recovery times can vary depending on how badly the wisdom teeth were impacted, however swelling is likely to ease after the 3-4th day. It is important to minimize all activity (that means taking time off work!) in order to allow the body to heal. Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practictioner.

Can any dentist provide my dental implant?

Although a general dentist may be able to provide this procedure, dental implants are sophisticated dental devices that must be placed carefully to avoid complications or implant failure. For the best outcome potential, it is vitally important that you choose a dental implant expert that has the proper education, training, and competence in implant dentistry. Dr Finn has undertaken extensive study and training in this specialization and is a member of ANZAOMS, the professional representative organisation for the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Are dental implants right for me?

Dental implants are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth which look, feel and function like natural teeth. A person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything, knowing that their teeth appear natural and their facial contours will be preserved so they can smile with confidence.
